Desert Foothills Theatre opens season with world premiere of a musical tribute to Sammy.
Bruce Nelson, a multi-talented actor/singer/dancer, has created a musical tribute to his idol Sammy Davis Jr.
The world premiere of Simply Sammy opened at the Desert Foothills Theatre. Simply Sammy stars Nelson along with a talented group of singers and dancers. Nelson works in tandem with Dee Dee Wood whose distinguished choreography career includes her award winning work in such hit films as The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and Beaches. Wood, also known for her staged extravaganzas, including super bowl half-time shows, last season directed The All Night Strut!
Desert Foothills Theatre is also delighted to have T.A. Burrows, a multi-talented professional entertainer, as part of Simply Sammy. Best known for his stand up comedy, he has also entertained audiences throughout America with his impressions, acting and songs and was a regular on the Las Vegas circuit.
Also featured in the musical tribute show are Ronee Korbin Steiner, a lawyer by day, whose singing roles include Triumph of Love, Oklahoma, and Fiddler on the Roof.
Daniel A Kurek, music director and arranger/conductor for Simply Sammy has worked extensively in Arizona as a vocalist, pianist, music director, vocal instructor and composer.
Under the artistic direction of Todd G. Ortone, who has worked with Joseph Papp's Public Theatre and New York Shakespeare Festival in New York City, Simply Sammy is certain to be a popular ticket.
Simply Sammy features such songs as: Mr Bojangles, That Old Black Magic, The Birth of the Blues, I Gotta Be Me, Too Close for Comfort, Candy Man, Hey There, Just Once In A Lifetime...and twenty more.
