A season of Sammy in TV at the film & tv museum in New York and Los Angeles.
Entertainer Sammy Davis, Jr., burst onto the
performing scene in the 1950s, first as a member of the Will Mastin Trio and later as the star of the 1956 Broadway show Mr. Wonderful and as Sportiní Life in the 1959 Samuel Goldwyn film Porgy and Bess. In the next decade he was at the peak of his prowess, headlining at nightclubs and drawing standing-room-only crowds for his role as a prizefighter in the 1964 Broadway musical Golden Boy. As a salute to this extraordinary performer, the Museum is screening several landmark Davis television performances from the 1960s, including a rare BBC studio concert; a long-lost 1964 WCBS program, American Musical Theatre; and the final episode of the short-lived 1966 NBC variety series The Sammy
Davis Jr. Show.
